Common struggles of the eye cream search
/ Svima nam zajedničke muke u traženju okoloočnih krema

A search for a perfect skincare product is much worse than finding an outfit for a special occasion. While you may endure super uncomfortable shoes for one night, purchasing a wrong cream might leave you in a way less attractive situation – slight discomfort might be the least to expect. Since drugstores, pharmacies and high-end cosmetic stores offer literally endless choices today, the quest might take eternity. And despite the available range, I still run my lifelong marathon among beauty shelves. My ideal eye cream for that delicate area would be very nourishing, gentle, nasty chemicals-free and, of course, containing at least some small SPF number. And while I’m looking for my Mr. Right Eye Cream, I did happen to meet a lot of Mr. Works For Nows, and a few Mr. So Not Gonna Happens. (Am I starting an eye cream Tinder right now?) Here, I’d like to compile and share with you my experiences with drugstore and para-pharmacy products in the past year or two, with a short ingredients mention. Hopefully it will help some of you running in their own beauty marathons, and I’d really love to hear your stories bellow the post.
You can also check out other posts where I mentioned and reviewed more eye creams of other brands: Nuxe, Afrodita, Vichy (here and here).

Također možete pročitati i druge postove gdje sam spomenula i recenzirala druge okoloočne kreme ostalih brendova: Nuxe, Afrodita, Vichy (ovdje ovdje).

Nivea Cellular Anti-age Eye Cream
– 15 ml, €15 –

Even though I belong in the young users group, I still like to use ingredients that are usually classified as anti-age, e.g. antioxidants, hyaluronate, and sometimes peptides. This cream is rich in glycerin, fatty alcohols and triglycerides, which all give it a really nice, cream texture. My thin skin likes this formula and I think it makes it well nourished. Creatine, sodium hyaluronate and 1-methylhydantoin-2-imide are particularly nice perks of the products, but the only “downside” is a tiny amount of silicones (but to be honest I don’t even notice them). Despite the anti-age part of the name, I’d say anyone can use it – even the packaging doesn’t state any age restrictions. And I’m not the biggest fan of Nivea, but this one is a keeper.

Nivea Cellular Anti-age Eye Cream
– 15 ml, 110 kn –

Sebamed Anti-Ageing Q10 Lifting Eye Cream – 15 ml, €12 –

I’ve never used anything from this brand before, but I know that their products are skin pH-friendly (5,5). Plants oil, shea butter, some peptides, ubiquinone, hyaluron and bisabolol made me choose this one over other drugstore choices at the moment of purchase. However I found it a bit too rich, almost greasy for a day cream as it would enhance mascara smudging or eyeshadow creasing, even with eyeshadow base underneath it. Despite that, I continued using it as a part of my nourishing night routine. It was decent in the end, but I think I will skip it in the future in favour of some other, more appealing products.

Sebamed Anti-Ageing Q10 Lifting Eye Cream – 15 ml, 100 kn –

Rituals Line Defense Eye Lotion – 15 ml, €15 –

Discovering Rituals was an exciting thing for me when I came to Luxembourg, and I wanted to get every possible product from their store! But to be realistic, I got myself an eye cream with botanical anti-aging complexes for young skin (along with some other creams and fragrances for my apartment, but that will be a totally different haul). The packaging is gorgeous, elegant and so sturdy, and the ingredients list just makes me feel understood by the brand. Many nice stuff are inside, like squalene, shea butter, jojoba oil, sodium hyaluronate, triglycerides, plant extracts, some amino acids… And you can definitely feel it on your fingers, or skin in general. Where have I been all these years? In Croatia you can find Rituals products in Douglas stores, but I don’t remember seeing everything there is from this brand.

Rituals Line Defense Eye Lotion – 15 ml –

Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes* – 15ml, €30 –

Oh boy, I love Vichy, but this just isn’t working. Silicones combined with emollient make the texture too sticky, which just seemed too “fake” to me. It felt like it was purely sitting on the skin, not doing anything, just to be washed away at the end of the day (and you could feel the icky layer going away underneath fingers). Titanium dioxide and mica are supposed to reflect the light in order for the skin to appear brighter, and there are even some nice things inside as well, like hyalurone, peptides and adenosine. However, I didn’t feel like anything was happening, or benefiting from the product, and the sticky feeling started becoming discomforting, so I just stopped using it regularly and switch to other creams – which is basically what happened to another Vichy eye cream I’d used. I’ve got to commend the unusual yet cool metallic packaging though.

Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes* – 15ml, 240 kn –

Garnier Skin Naturals BB cream Eye Roll-On – 7 ml, €8 –

First of all, I read the ingredients before buying it and I totally understood it promises too much compared to what I can deliver. However, I was just too curious and in a shopping mood so I just put it in my cart. The thing is that this eye cream is not a cream, and is more of an under-eye concealer, with a nice liquid texture. It’s ingredient list doesn’t give it the right to call it a cream: silicones, alcohols, silicones again, talc, some more silicones, pigments – it basically screams it’s a makeup product! – caffeine, and okay, some small amounts of peptides. It is quite orange-tinted so I prefer using it as an actual concealer because it’s surprisingly good at neutralising the purple are underneath my eyes. For anything else, just don’t expect much skin care.

Garnier Skin Naturals BB cream Eye Roll-On – 7 ml, 50 kn –

– kofein i, hajde dobro, mala količina peptida.

Balea Ultra Sensitive Q10 Eye cream – 15 ml, €3 –

I wrote a whole article on two other products from the Balea eye cream series, which is a fantastic line of super-affordable eye creams. I mean, 3 euros for a full size decent product? Yes, please! Unfortunatelly I didn’t keep the box so I can’t make a comment on the ingredients list of this one specifically, but the other creams are a must have for this price range. It wasn’t too heavy or greasy, but it was quick to absorb so it was perfect for light nourishment during the day, underneath all that makeup.

Balea Ultra Sensitive Q10 Eye cream – 15 ml, 20 kn –

L’Oréal Age Perfect Re-Hydrating Eye Cream – 15ml, €16 –

This product is recommended for mature skin, in the 50s-to-60s years of life range, but I had to get it, just because it had so many great ingredients on the list (and some less that good). I didn’t use it consistently because let’s face it, my skin is not in its 50s, so I cannot speak about its anti-age action. It comes in a nice and minimalistic packaging (come on L’Oréal, why so cheap, you could’ve at least put the cream’s full name on it!). It glides nice and smoothly on the skin thanks to silicones (but I’m not glad to see them in this amount), and in lesser amounts one can find plant extracts, jojoba oil, some soy proteins and soluble collagen. At the end of the list, there is optically brightening titanium dioxide/mica duo, as well as god-forbid preservatives methyl- and propylparaben. All in all, a nice cream to use (except the parabens part) but after you turn 50.

L’Oréal Age Perfect Re-Hydrating Eye Cream – 15ml, 110 kn –
